The Habsburgs are a powerful dynasty German<\/a> and Austrian emperors, Spanish, Czech and Hungarian<\/a> Royal. Hapsburgs originate from the Swiss Aargau, and they moved to Austria at the end of the XIII century.<\/p> \n \n

In 1379, the Habsburg dynasty split into two branches: Albrecht (Upper and lower Austria) and Leopold (other lands). The Albrecht branch received the crown of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation and for the first time United the Austrian lands with those of the Czech and the Hungarian crown<\/a> (1437-1457), including Transcarpathia.<\/p> \n \n

The branch of Leopold of Habsburg held the Roman-German crown since 1440. In 1457, the descendants of Leopold of Habsburg inherited the Austrian lands, and with the help of a dynastic marriage, Maximilian I and Mary of Burgundy, United Burgundy, Spain and Kingdom of Naples<\/a>, and later colonies in Americans<\/a>.<\/p> \n \n

In 1521, the Habsburg dynasty again split into two branches: the Spanish (extinct in 1701) and the Austrian.<\/p> \n \n

The Habsburg dynasty finally received the Czech and Hungarian crowns in 1526 after the battle of Mogachy and the expansion of the Ottoman Turks in Central Europe) and held them until 1918, simultaneously being German emperors except Maria Theresa (her husband, Franz of Lorraine, was the Emperor). The title of German emperors from the Habsburgs was taken awayNapoleon<\/a> in 1804, after which they declared themselves Austrian emperors.<\/p> \n \n

In the history of Transcarpathia, the most famous Habsburgs were Maria Theresa (1746-1780) and Joseph II (1780-1790), who radically changed the life of Transcarpathians with their progressive reforms.<\/p> \n\r\n

Emperor Franz Joseph I (1848-1916) was the first to consider a political program the Transcarpathian Ukrainians<\/a> providing for a short period (1849-1850) our region the opportunity to unite in the so-called Uzhgorod state district, which covered the territory of almost the entire modern Transcarpathian region. The ideological mastermind of the creation of the district, Adolf Dobryansky, even intended to obtain autonomy within its territory.<\/p> \n \n

The last Habsburg Emperor was Charles I (1916-1918). His son Otto Habsburg (1912-2011), a well-known European political figure and supporter of European unification, visited the Transcarpathian region of independent Ukraine for the first time in 1993. His son Karl Habsburg-Loringen regularly visits the Transcarpathian region and is engaged in charity projects on the territory of our region.<\/p> \n\r\n
