Mihaly Munkacsy (Michael von Lieb, 1844-1900) is a world famous artist mukachevsky<\/a> origin. His real name is Lib, and he took the pseudonym munkachi in honor of its then name hometown<\/a>, in those days Austro-Hungarian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The artist was born in the family of a simple official German<\/a> origin. His father was imprisoned for supporting the Hungarian revolution of 1848-1849. Mihai took his first drawing lessons from the wandering artist Elek Solitude. Then he studied at the art academies of Dusseldorf, Munich, Budapest and Vienna.<\/p>\n

In 1870, his painting “on death row” was recognized as the best in the Paris salon and brought the artist recognition and fame. Most of the artist’s paintings are dedicated to the events of the Hungarian revolution.<\/p>\n
