His real name is Lib, and he took the pseudonym munkachi in honor of its then name <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/journey-to-second-cpital-of-transcarpathia-mukachevo\/\">hometown<\/a>, in those days <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/dinastija-gabsburgiv\/\">Austro-Hungarian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The artist was born in the family of a simple official <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/zakarpatski-nimci\/\">German<\/a> origin. His father was imprisoned for supporting the Hungarian revolution of 1848-1849. Mihai took his first drawing lessons from the wandering artist Elek Solitude. Then he studied at the art academies of Dusseldorf, Munich, Budapest and Vienna.<\/p>\n<p>In 1870, his painting &#8220;on death row&#8221; was recognized as the best in the Paris salon and brought the artist recognition and fame. The city administration, in addition to the permit, also solemnly awarded him the title of honorary citizen of the city.<\/p>\n<p>In the last years of his life, the artist was ill with severe mental disorders and suffered from syphilis. He died in poverty in an almshouse in the German town of Ending, which is located near Bonn. He was buried in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>In the city of Mukachevo, at the address Mira square, 16 is <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/uzhgorodskij-muzej-fedora-manajla\/\">Museum, mih\u00e1ly munk\u00e1csy<\/a>, v <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/mini-skulptura-zakarpatskogo-van-goga-tivodara-chontvari\/\">Hungarian painting<\/a>.The Museum is open on weekdays from 09.00 to 19.00. On Saturday-from 09.00 to 14.00 hours. Sunday is a day off. Entrance to <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/transcarpathian-art-museum\/\">museum&#8217;s<\/a> and the tours are free. In the same building is the children&#8217;s art school named after Mihai munk\u00e1csy.
