Description
Ferenc Erkel was a prominent Hungarian composer, pianist, conductor and teacher. Together with Ferenc Liszt, Ferenc Erkel initiated the construction of a new building of the Opera House in Budapest in 1872, erected in 1884 and became its conductor from the day it was opened. The sons of Erkel - Gyula (1842-1909), Elek (1843-1893), Laszlo (1844-1896) and Sandor (1846-1900) also became musicians.
