Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit #177
At the entrance to the village is a relatively new wooden church, and the real masterpiece of folk architecture lies a little farther, at the turn to Mount Big Top. It is a temple of the Descent of the Holy Spirit built in the 18th century with elements of Baroque style. The church is built of spruce on a foundation of river stones on clay mortar. This masterpiece of the Verkhovyna People's Architecture is the oldest in the whole Volovets district. The temple is surprisingly slender and proportionate. The eight-meter bell tower is part of a magnificent architectural ensemble. According to the entry in the Chronicle of the Gucliv Chronicle, the iconostasis of the temple was painted in 1784 by German artist Franz Peyer.
