Istvan Laudon is not accidentally associated with Magnolia. Before Uzhgorod, this incredible flower, which in beauty can be compared with Sakura,it was he who brought it. Istvan Laudon (1862-1924) – famous teacher, naturalist, doctor of Uzhgorod Royal Catholic gymnasium. He was a philologist by training, but he was very interested in natural science. Loudon traveled a lot.
Istvan Laudon planted unique plants collected during his travels in his garden. Loudon established a unique arboretum in his garden. The opening of the mini-monument is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of this unique arboretum. In its heyday, the garden Laudon occupied a large area from the street Sobranetska the Embankment of Independence. At that time, there were more than two hundred exotics in it. It was considered one of the best works of Park art Austria-Hungary. Unfortunately, over time, during the active development of the city, the garden of Istvan Laudon has significantly decreased. Now in its place is a small square near the Uzhgorod city children’s clinical hospital, which has preserved a little more than a dozen trees. Among them are lavson’s cypress And canadian Hemlock, more in Ukraine and the oldest and Transcarpathian region Ginkgo biloba, yew berry, marsh cypress, black pine (Austrian), cryptomeria japonica, Magnolia Sulange and forest beech.
