The mini-sculpture “Hello” was opened on September 17, 2017. It was on this day that Tivadar Puskas was born and 120 years have passed since the establishment of telephone communication between Uzhgorod and Budapest. Installed this mini-sculpture in the form of a small telephone at the entrance to the building of the Central Department«Ukrpochtoy» in Uzhgorod (GPS: 48.623638, 22.295270).
This mini-sculpture is the smallest among more than thirty others in Uzhgorod. Stepan Rusnak and Roman Murnik were the blacksmiths of the sculpture, and its main author is Mikhail Kolodko. At the time of installation of the mini-sculpture, Mr. Mikhail lived in the capital Hungarians Budapest. During the opening ceremony of this mini-sculpture, Professor Fedor Sandor Uzhnu called Mikhail Kolodko after several unsuccessful attempts, to which he replied: «Hallom! Hallom! Tivadar Puskas(17.09.1844-16.03.1893) – Hungarian physicist and inventor of the telephone exchange. In January 1878, in the town of new Haven, which is located in the state of Connecticut (USA) the first telephone exchange of its kind, and at that time the only one in the world, was launched.the Hungarian engineer Tivadar Puskas was the founder of the project. According to an eyewitness, Thomas Edison, Puskas during the tests of the station for the first time used the most popular today telephone greeting “Hello”, which is derived from the Hungarian “hallom”, which translates to “I hear”.
Tivadar Puskas came from Transylvanian a noble family, studied law and electrical engineering. Even before emigrating to the United States, he created his own travel Agency, the first and oldest in Central Europe.
His wife Sofia fetter von der Lili for a long time for a period of time, she lived in Uzhgorod, and then moved to Budapest to Puskas.
Nadezhda Popadyuk tells an interesting legend about this mini-sculpture in her book “Uzhgorod – the world capital of mini-sculptures”.
