Population of Mukachevo district-101,000 people (without a city Mukachevo). Almost 85% of the district’s population is Ukrainians. It is also home to Hungarians, Roma, Germans, Russians, Slovaks and representatives of many other nationalities. On the territory of the area there are 88 settlements.
The area of the district is almost 1000 square kilometers. The area is extremely rich in minerals. It even produces its own natural gas. In addition, a large number of medicinal plants have been discovered in the area mineral spring. The most famous of them is the source in the sanatorium Bruise, mineral water from which is used for the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
Most of the district’s territory is occupied by mountains. The area of the district’s forests is more than forty thousand hectares. Forests are extremely rich in valuable advice woods (oak, beech, spruce) and hunting fauna.
In the mountain part there are marble caves (Hornbeam). The largest rivers Latoritsa and Witnica. There are a lot of swamps in the area (Salty Mlaks), as well as a lot of reservoirs’, intended for fish breeding.
There are as many as 20 nature reserves in the district. One of them – “Carpathians” – is of national significance.
The area is extremely rich in architectural monuments. The most attractive places for tourists in the district are Mukachevsky andChynadievo castles and castle-Palace of the counts of Schoenborn Beregvar.
