Beregovsky district it was created on the basis of the Pritisyansky and Kosonsky districts of the Beregovskaya zhupa in 1946. The southern border of Beregovshchina is the state border of Ukraine with the Republic of Hungary (Luzhanka, Kosino, Geten, Astey, Zvonkovo and Solovka railway crossings).
The area of the district is 802 square kilometers, the population is about 82,400 people. Hungarians they make up about 68% of the district’s population (almost 57,000 people), Ukrainians – 24,4%, Russians – 3,4%, other– 4,2,% (these modest four percent of “others” include representatives of 70 nationalities). The district has 43 villages (22 of them large), one village (Batevo) and one city (Beregovo).Batevo is a railway junction.
The area is extremely rich in minerals, there are polymetallic ores, includinggold, barite, alunite, coal, building materials, in particular perlite.
In addition, Beregovschina is one of the main centers vinicultures in Transcarpathia. 2979 hectares of land in the district are allocated for vineyards.
The area lies in the lowland zone of Transcarpathia, the climate is mild continental. There are sources of healing thermal water in the area. Thousands annually tourists visit the thermal waters of the Beregovsky district, which are extremely useful in the treatment and prevention of many ailments.
In addition to thermal waters attractions for tourists are monument of architecture, there are a lot of them preserved in this cozy corner of Transcarpathia. There are also a large number of wine tasting rooms and excellent restaurants in the area Hungarian cuisine, visiting which leaves an unforgettable impression for every tourist.
