Tyachevsky district covers an area of as much as 1,800 square kilometers. The district’s territory forms the border with Romania. The district includes 62 localities. The district has a population of 175,000. The majority of the district’s population is Ukrainians. More than 10% of residents of tyachevsky district – Romanians. Also live here Hungarians, Germans, rums, Belarusian, Russians and representatives of many other nationalities.
The biggest part of the territory belongs to high-altitude areas. The highest peak of the tyachevsky district is mount Bratkovskaya (1788 meters). It is on the territory of the tyachevsky district that the snowiest place in Ukraine is located – the village of Russian Wet, where snow lies 116-178 days per year. The biggest part of the territory is the deepest medical institution in Ukraine – Solotvynska Republican allergological hospital.
