The district has a population of 90,000. The majority of the district’s population is Ukrainians, which relate to Hutsul subethnos.The area is well preserved original Hutsul traditions.. In addition to Ukrainians-Hutsuls in Rakhiv district live Crrown, Hungarians, rums, Germans and representatives of many other nationalities.
The area of the district is 1892 square kilometers. Largest river – Yew tree and Shopurka. On the territory of Rakhiv district, located mountain lake Epsinet, Maricheika, Violent, Berbeneskul, Vorozheska, Hereshaska, Drogobytske Lake, Lower, Upper, Small Gropa.
Rakhiv district is located in the highest place in Ukraine. It is on the Rakhiv Region that the highest peak of the Ukrainian Carpathians and all of Ukraine is located – Hoverla (2061 m.), and five other peaks whose height exceeds two thousand meters: Berbeneskul, Pop-Ivan, Petros, Gutin-Tomnatik, Ribs.
It is through the Rakhiv district that the highest mountain road in Ukraine passes – the highway Yablunitsky pass.
In addition, the Rakhiv Region made a significant contribution to the struggle of the Ukrainian people for independence. In 1918, for several months in the area there was a small state – the Hutsul Republic with the center in the village Ash.
Rakhov region is also rich in minerals. Marble, granite, dolomite and even золото. A large Deposit of gold ore was found here in 2018.
