In 1872, a railway was laid through Volovets, which gave an impetus to the further rapid development of the village. Since 1957, Volovets has received the status of an urban-type settlement and district center. During the years of Soviet rule, administrative buildings, a communications center, a cultural Center, a tourist center "Plai", and a shopping complex were built here.
Today Volovets is one of the tourist centers of Transcarpathia. From here start the routes in the Borzhava Polonina.
During world war II, the Hungarian government built a military defensive line in the North-Eastern Carpathians – the Arpad Line. It consisted of several belts. The first is in the Carpathian region, to protect the approaches to the main Carpathian watershed

The Sinevir brown bear rehabilitation center is a huge, ecologically clean territory with an area of more than 12 hectares. It is enclosed by a fence that is electrically energized. Synevir national nature Park was chosen for the construction of such a center not by chance. Its natural and climatic conditions and location fully meet the needs of brown bears. In the upper part of the center there are 6 cages and 2 sections for keeping bears with different ages and health conditions. There are also pools and dens. Tourists have the opportunity to observe clubfoot through special nets and fences.
