InRomanian the village of Serednie Vodiane (formerly Middle Apsha population of almost six thousand people) Rakhovsky district Зkarpatsko region are preserved two valuable from a historical point of view wooden church. Both shrines are dedicated Nikolay Wonderworker. Local residents distinguish these churches not by name, but by geographical location: upper and lower.
The upper temple is two-sided, from the outside it seems that it is embedded in the ground. This is one of the oldest templesin Transcarpathia. He meets tourists at the beginning of the village by the road. This Church has been known since 1428, and in 1760 a high frame tower was built over the entrance. Narrow Lancet Windows are a reflection gothic style in architecture. Near the Church is a low one belfry and a wooden crucifix. The interior of the Church has preserved paintings of the nave in 1601-made in the spirit of Ukrainian painting of the XV century and dedicated to the subjects of the “Passion of the Lord”. In addition, the paintings of babynets of the XVIII century with images of the “Last judgment”, figures of saints, among which there is a portrait of the temple’s curator, priest Nikor, are preserved. An image is highlighted on the vaultholy mother «Sign». A valuable four-tiered iconostasis from 1761 has also been preserved. Oak log houses of this Church are considered the oldest in Ukraine.
Lower Nicholas Church is located at a distance of one kilometer from the top. It is younger than its neighbor, it was built in the XVII century. Harsh outside, the temple has a high roof and stands out for the unusual location of the entrance: on the South the facade of this ancient structure. Also on the South side is the entrance to the upper Nicholas Church. The roof of the lower Church is also covered with shingles. Recently during the renovation, ancient paintings were discovered in it.
