Transcarpathia’s unique climate favored the ancient vine masters. In Transcarpathia, with its warm, sunny summers, mild winters, fertile soil, relief, everything seems to have been purposely created for planting vines. Later, the Romans brought with them new, more advanced technologies. After the Romans came the Ostrogothic Germans, the Huns, then the Slavs and the Hungarians. In the 12th-19th centuries, the Italians and the French imported and distributed selected grape varieties in our region.
