Derenovskaya Kupil has an ancient history shrouded in mysterious legends. The first documentary evidence of healing with local mineral waters dates back to 1582. From the written sources of those times, you can find out that Miklos Korlat from the village of Khlmets, was suing Drugets for the right to own forests and a healing bath in the Derenovka tract. Since December 19, 1634, thanks to the local priest Daniel Srednyansky, the old names of the baths have been known. In those days it was called “Derentse Trucks”, “Derenza groobornia”, “Derets silver vaserovna”, which is an additional confirmation of its healing properties.

The very name “Derenivka” comes from the dogwood, which grew in this natural boundary and was called in Transcarpathia – “deren”.

In the documents of the Habsburg dynasty, dated 1692, the Derenewski water is called “Derenus Zilbers wasser”. It is this name that can be seen today on the ancient coat of arms of the bath. During the uprising of the Kuruts in the confrontation between the Transylvanian prince Ferenc II Rakoczi and the Habsburgs, “Slatino” (as the resort was called) in 1705 was destroyed to the ground. Fortunately, thanks to its healing properties, the bath was rebuilt very quickly.

Bathing baths “Derence Zhelobovno” were filled with mineral water by wooden troughs. Austrian nobles in these baths were treated and rejuvenated, and lived in a palace with towers and terraces.

In the first half of the XX century. Famous European families visit Derenovskaya kupil. The fame of this resort surpassed Baden-Baden and Karlovy Vary. It is not surprising that in 1913 “Derenivskie kupil” was officially recommended for visiting in Austria-Hungary.

In 1935, the scientist Frantisek Wiesner in his scientific work “Mineral springs of Subcarpathian Rus” highly appreciated its healing properties and recommended it for use by both local residents and all citizens of the Czechoslovak Republic. In Soviet times, the Kooperator sanatorium operated in the tract, which had all-Union fame and recognition.
