Overview

A one-day tour to Romania from Uzhhorod will be an extremely bright and enchanting event in your life. In a short period of time, you will be able to explore the unique locations of Count Dracula’s country, such as:

  • “merry cemetery”;
  • tallest wooden church/bell tower in Europe;
  • Maramorosh Gothic masterpieces;
  • museum in a former prison, etc.

Main programme

A ‘’merry cemetery‘’ is a very unusual location for Ukrainians. For us, cemeteries are places of sadness and tragedy. In the Romanian village of Sepyntsa, however, death is treated philosophically, and the cemetery is arranged in the most positive artistic and poetic way. Apparently, the Romanians inherited this from their predecessors, the Dacian tribes, who proudly fought the vast Roman Empire, and when they died in battle, they did so laughing.

Merry Cemetery in the village of Sepyntsa is a kind of open-air museum where the strong, carefree spirit of Romanians, which is affirmed in the boundless love of life, is reflected in the abode of the dead. Next to the cheerful cemetery stands a church, whose architecture is also as life-affirming and positive as possible, with bright mosaics and a tower with a coloured roof.

Modern Romanian villages are a real paradise for green tourism lovers. Here, you can enjoy the aesthetics and originality of picturesque nature, old wooden houses covered with original shingle roofs, and traditional wooden gates decorated with carved hearts, tulips and stars. Romanian villages still use horse-drawn sleighs to bring hay from the mountain meadows. Verandas are brightly decorated with garlands of red pepper pods. The local gardens are filled with a variety of fruit trees and nuts, and numerous beehives are scattered around. Sometimes you can see barrels between the trees, which are used in autumn to infuse khorinka, a traditional alcoholic drink made from plums.

Another modern hallmark of Romanian villages is the presence of gorgeous new houses with expensive stucco. In some places, the homes of ordinary Romanians look like real royal palaces.

In addition to exploring the sights and museums, you will taste the extraordinary taste of Romanian national cuisine, buy ‘’zuyka‘’ (the Romanian equivalent of Balkan plum), enjoy fragrant cheese in pine bark, and buy porcelain and local natural cosmetics as souvenirs.

  • For many Ukrainians, Romania is associated with the dictator Ceausescu, the Dacia car, colourful Roma settlements, pompous Romanian furniture, and the bloodthirsty Count Dracula, who was popularised in the novel of the same name by Irish writer Bram Stoker. During our tour, you will be able to see Romania as a successful European country that is rapidly developing, but at the same time very carefully treats its original cultural heritage.
