History of the museum of the Truskavets resort town
The building of this museum is a historical monument, built at the dawn of the twentieth century in the Art Nouveau style combined with “historicism” and Moorish architecture. In those distant times, the Polish family of Rozwadowski decided to build the Sariusz Resort Villa, which began to receive holidaymakers in 1901.
In 1980, in order to preserve this masterpiece of architecture, the deputies of the Lviv Regional Council granted the status of an architectural monument to the former resort villa. In 1981 and in 2008, this status was confirmed by the relevant decisions of the Truskavets City Council.
The former villa now houses a museum, which can significantly expand your knowledge and understanding of the history of Truskavets from its origins to the present day.
The museum itself was founded back in Soviet times on 29 December 1982. The city’s enterprises and sanatoriums actively contributed to its creation.
The first period of the museum’s activity was filled with propaganda of the Soviet government and the Communist Party. Despite being ideologically driven, the museum displayed the main milestones in Truskavets’ history, which aroused interest among holidaymakers.
After Ukraine gained its independence in 1991, the Truskavets Resort Museum began a new era of activity. The museum staff’s research and local history work was primarily aimed at reviving and highlighting the white spots in Truskavets’ history and culture, as well as the activities of prominent residents of the city, in museum exhibitions. The Lviv Historical Museum provided significant assistance in the museum’s renovation.
Over the years of independence, the museum’s exposition has been significantly replenished with photographs and documents, new cartographic materials, household and cultural items, clothing and weapons, etc.
