Itinerary

Uzhhorod

After leaving the city of Uzhhorod, whose old Hungarian name is Ungvar, we will head towards Beregovo district.

Beregovo district

On the way through Beregovo district, you will discover the amazing culture of the Hungarian people, learn about traditions and rituals that are unusual for us. Hungarian villages will surprise you not only with their cleanliness, order and quality. The national flags of Ukraine and Hungary are peacefully hanging on the houses, all inscriptions are in Hungarian, along with advertisements and street name signs, and the familiar Shevchenko Street is written as Shevchenkó utca.

Kosyno

The first stop will be in the village of Kaszony, where the famous Kosyno thermal pools are located just a few hundred metres from the state border of Ukraine and Hungary. The thermal waters of the pools have unique healing properties. There are very few places like this in the world - only New Zealand, Iceland, Sakhalin and Kamchatka can boast of similar natural wealth. But the main highlight of the baths is not only the healing properties of the water - the project is based on the experience and architectural solutions of similar thermal pools in Hungary, and, as a result, a high level of comfort, aesthetics and compliance with high sanitary standards. As they say, there is beauty, cleanliness and order everywhere. In addition to fun attractions, there are 7 types of saunas and baths (Hungarian sauna, hammam, salt cave, eucalyptus bath, cryo-sauna, Roman bath, etc.)

Dyida (Didove)

Next, you will have a short drive and lunch in a restaurant in the village of Dyida, where authentic Hungarian cuisine is well represented: bograch, bob-löves, torgonyo löves, chirka paprikash, loci baked, polocinto. After lunch in a Hungarian restaurant, many of these dishes will no longer be a white gap in your culinary knowledge.

Beregovo

Next, you will be welcomed by the city of Beregovo, the cultural centre of ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia, located 5 km from the state border. Here we will have a fascinating tour of the historic city centre.

Beregovo is famous for its more than 900-year history, being one of the oldest cities in our country, the first mention of which dates back to 1063. During the tour, you will get acquainted with amazing architectural monuments, many of which impress with their grandeur and testify to the glorious past of the city.

You will see one of the oldest Gothic churches in Ukraine - the Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, built in 1100. The temple impresses with its rich history and unique architectural solutions, including the facade sundial, which you can always use to determine the exact time (of course, if the sun is shining).

In the V-VII centuries, about 80% of Hungarians were adherents of Protestantism. The residents of Berehove were no exception. The Protestant church of Lutheran Christians, dating back to the sixth century, will not leave anyone indifferent. The hall, which can accommodate 1,100 people, has austere decoration, and an old RIEGER organ plays during church services.

The bridge over the Werke Canal, which connects the Latorytsia and Borzhava rivers, built in 1853, is not only beautiful, but also the oldest bridge in the Transcarpathian region and all of Europe.

Looking at the building of the Komitat court, built in 1912, you can't stop admiring the perfection and harmony. The OROSLAN and GRAND OTEL hotels, the Golden Peacock Casino, the Count Betlen Palace, the twin houses - these and many other old buildings effectively emphasise the charm of a quiet European town.

Wandering the streets and getting to know Beregovo, which the Hungarians themselves call Beregszász, you are transported to another reality. The ubiquitous Hungarian language, shop signs written in the same language, the national flags of Hungary and the European Union hanging alongside the flag of Ukraine, and many cars with Hungarian licence plates. And to top it all off, you'll even start receiving "Welcome to Hungary" text messages on your mobile phone.

It is impossible to come to the land of winemakers and not taste the wines. After exploring the amazing and different city of Beregovo, you will have a chance to taste the fragrant Hungarian wine. Winemaking is an integral part of the history and culture of both the Hungarian people and the Berehove region. Berehove wines have always been famous for their high quality and unforgettable taste.

During the tasting, conducted by a master winemaker, you will not only taste this ancient drink, but also discover a whole universe called WINE! The tasting you will take part in will radically change your attitude to this amazing drink that has accompanied our ancestors for thousands of years. You will be truly imbued with respect, understanding the essence of wine and the benefits it brings. And if you want to take home a piece of sunny Transcarpathia, you will have the opportunity to buy the wine you like in the wine cellar.
