Verkhovyna

The village of Verkhovyna is located in the Ivano-Frankivsk region at an altitude of over 600 metres above sea level and is the administrative centre of the Verkhovyna district. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1424. Until 1962, the village was called Zhabie. The population of Verkhovyna is almost 6 thousand people. Many people prefer to come here on holiday because they can enjoy the clean air and the beauty of nature.

In winter, you can go skiing or sledging in the Carpathians, and there are saunas and baths. Hiking trips are organised for those who wish. If you wish, you can find accommodation for any budget, there are rooms in private houses or rooms in modern hotels.

In the winter months, holidays can be active and relaxing, and Verkhovyna has everything for that. Beginners can go skiing on the piste, while those who are more confident can visit Bukovel.

In Verkhovyna, you can go on an excursion to the Regional History and Local Lore Museum of Hutsulshchyna, a private Museum of Hutsul Life, Roman Khumlyk Museum of Ethnography and Musical Instruments, the Museum of Hutsul Magic, the Annichka Film House Museum, the Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors Film House Museum, the Verkhovyna Museum of Folk Culture “At the Trembitar”, the Vyshyvanka Museum, the Hata Staya Cheese Factory Museum, and the Petro Shekerik-Donikovyi Museum. All of them provide an opportunity to get to know the unique and distinctive history, culture and way of life of the local residents.

Verkhovyna is home to the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1994, which is one of the largest wooden churches in Ukraine.

In the summer, you can go horseback riding, pick berries and mushrooms, go fishing, and take bike tours. There are specially designed tourist routes for cyclists. Adrenaline junkies can go rafting, with mountain streams tickling their nerves.
