The village of Verkhovyna is located in the Ivano-Frankivsk region at an altitude of over 600 metres above sea level and is the administrative centre of the Verkhovyna district. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1424. Until 1962, the village was called Zhabie. The population of Verkhovyna is almost 6 thousand people.
