Detailed description of the Museum of the Liberation Struggle in Kosiv
The museum’s exposition highlights the heroic and tragic pages of the history of Ukraine, Hutsul and Kosiv regions in 1920-1954. In particular, the museum’s exhibits reflect the revival and development of the Ukrainian national liberation movement, the activities of the OUN, the tragic events of World War II, repressions and war crimes against civilians, and the heroic deeds of the UPA army in the fight against the German, Polish and Bolshevik oppressors of Ukrainians.
In total, the collections of the Museum of the Liberation War include 1,440 exhibits in the general collection and 569 in the library collection. The library, which operates at the museum, is open to everyone. However, the most popular place in the museum is the insurgent hideout, which is a partisan forest building made of wood and camouflage materials.
Special lighting and sound effects are a great addition to the museum’s exposition.
The collection of the Museum of the Liberation Struggle was formed thanks to the efforts of Daria Koshak, a member of the Ukrainian Resistance Movement, and her comrades, as well as thanks to the materials of the Yavoriv UPA Photo Archive, exhibits and documents from many caring people.
The Kosiv Museum of the Liberation Struggle plays an important role in preserving the memory of the true history of the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom. Every year it is visited by thousands of travellers from all over Ukraine. Local experienced guides provide extremely interesting and engaging tours. You should definitely visit this museum with your children to see and hear about the heroic pages of Ukraine’s past.
