St. Michael’s Church in Svalyava
The church is located on a hill in the Bystry suburb of the city Svalyava (Bystryanska street), which was a separate village before it became part of the city. The log cabins of the church and the roof of the nave with one fold date back to 1588, when the church stood on another site (a place higher up on the hill of Berda, which is further from the center of Svalyava) and was consecrated in honor of Nicholas the Wonderworker. In the second half of the 17th century. priests from the Tsivanki dynasty served in the temple, and in 1733 Petro Tsivanko called himself Tsiviankovich. On the walls of the nave there are dates: “РКУ БЖ АΨЛГ (1733)”, which may indicate the date of its renovation.
The church got its modern look after the reconstruction in 1759. From the original church in 1588, the log cabins of the old woman and nave with folds have been preserved. According to its type, this church is transitional from Lemki to Baroque. The temple is still active today.
