The name of the Strukivska church in the village of Yasinya comes from the name of Ivan Struk, a shepherd from Galicia. According to the legend, his sheep successfully overwintered without their owner under the crown of a huge ash tree. Deciding to settle in this place, Struk cut down the ash tree and built a chapel on its stump. He founded a village on the banks of the Chorna Tysa River and named it Yasinya in honour of the ash tree. People still consider the hill and the church on it sacred.
According to another version, shepherd Struk was driving sheep from Romania. On Mount Svydovets, he and his flock were attacked by wolves. Fleeing from them, the shepherd quickly fenced the flock with ash logs, and he himself escaped from Svydovets. In the spring, he was pleasantly surprised to find all his sheep alive and well. Throughout the winter, the sheep had been eating ash logs. Hence the name of the village – Yasinya.
