Kunigunda (also known as Kunikunda) is the largest of the salt lakes of anthropogenic origin located on the western outskirts of the village of Solotvyno Tyachiv district, Transcarpathian region. The karst reservoir with healing water is analogous to the Dead Sea in terms of mineralisation. The shore and the bottom are covered with a layer of black healing mud. The water temperature does not drop below +17°C throughout the year and stays at +25-27°C in summer.
The irregularly shaped lake was formed in 1902 as a result of the subsidence of the newly opened Kunigunda salt mine by 20 metres (hence the name of the lake). There is an island in the middle of the reservoir.
Solotvyno Lake Kunigunda contains therapeutic brine and sulphide mud, which have a positive effect in the treatment of the pulmonary and cardiovascular systems, the consequences of phlebitis and thrombophlebitis, bone diseases, nervous system, urological diseases, and psoriasis.
