Дерев’яна церква Різдва Богородиці

This magnificent Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located at the entrance to the village. It was built in 1780 and rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century. The temple was renovated in 1941 and 1961. In 1979, the church was covered with a new clapboard. According to legend, in 1939, the Hungarian district administration offered the community to build a brick church in exchange for the wood of the linden, ash and sycamore trees that grew around the church, but the people refused. The temple has strict and monumental forms. Its decorativeness is given by the baroque forms of the dome and the exquisite arcade.

It is the exquisite arcade of lower choirs and porches with profiled columns that is a new phenomenon compared to other baroque churches of the neighboring Volovechchyna.

The iconostasis of the 18th century has been preserved in the interior of the church. Next to the church is a monumental two-tiered bell tower, which was built back in 1758. The lower log tier of the belfry is covered with a clapboard, and the upper tier is sheathed with boards and finished with an octagonal tent. The old bells were taken away during the First World War, and three new ones were cast in Ferenc Egri’s foundry in 1924.

Музей дерев’яних храмів

In 2007, Yuriy Bedrynets opened the Museum of Wooden Temples in Pylypets. In the hall of the museum there are almost 30 models, which represent examples of sacred architecture of the Transcarpathian and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Unfortunately, most of the originals of these layouts have ceased to exist. The author of all models of the museum is the famous folk craftsman Andrii Horobets.

The museum is located on the territory of the “Aratta” hotel and restaurant complex at the address of the village Pylypets, 343 (tel. +380314625012, +380675654992, +380663381456).

На фоні водопаду Шипіт

Among the magical Carpathians, on the outskirts of the village of Pylypets near Mount Hymba, at an altitude of 744 m above sea level, the majestic Shypit waterfall carries its turbulent flow. The water artery on which the waterfall was formed is the Ploshanka mountain river. It originates from underground springs on the slopes of Velikiy Verkh mountain (altitude 1598 m). Even on the hottest days, the water in it is extremely cool and fresh.

Five cascades of the Shypit waterfall carry a turbulent flow from a height of 14 meters. Falling from such a height of water, Ploshanka, breaking on stones into millions of bright drops, create magical mini-rainbows, winning colors in the sun and give birth to a loud sound that can be heard from afar like a melodious whisper.

Tens of thousands of tourists come to the waterfall every year to see this real miracle of nature. Shypit is worth visiting at any time. In the summer, it is a small river that flows down majestic rocky ledges and saves from the heat with its cool breath of rainbow drops. In winter, the waters of Shypit freeze, forming magical ice figures. It is most attractive for tourists in spring and autumn, when it is at its most full of water and majestic.

There is a romantic legend about Shypit waterfall. In ancient times, two families lived next door in Pylypets. A beautiful daughter Marichka grew up in a wealthy family, who was the pride of her parents. Many gentlemen wooed a beautiful girl from a wealthy and noble family. But all of them were not nice to her. And she fell in love with Ivanka, a young neighbor boy from a poor family. So that their parents would not find out about their love, they began to meet secretly in a deserted place near Velikiy Verkh mountain.

However, soon Marichka’s mother found out about their meetings. She decided to find out where her daughter was going in the evening. Finding Ivanka and Marichka together, Marichka’s mother got angry and started cursing the young couple. Apparently, the curses attracted dark forces and a big storm with a thunderstorm started in the forest. A rapid, huge stream of water instantly covered Ivanka and Marichka and lost them.

Marichka’s mother was overcome with grief, and since then every day she came to the waterfall and cried. One day on the night of Ivan Kupala, she heard her daughter’s voice whispering words of love to Ivanka. The shocked mother cried out in despair: “Do you hear people whispering? They are whispering to each other.” Since then, the waterfall has been called “Shypit” or “Shypot”.

This place has been a popular tourist location since 1993. At that time, the tradition of holding a festival of youth subcultures was started here, which every year from July 1 to 10 attracts like a magnet thousands of representatives of informal youth trends (punks, hippies, rockers, metalheads, goths, anarchists) from all over the world. On Ivan Kupala Day, non-formals light a fire, sing, dance, and have fun. The popular writer Lyubko Deresh chose Shypit as the setting for his novel “A Little Darkness” written by him in 2007.

And also this area is chosen by Transcarpathian artists and professional photographers for plein-air exhibitions “Pylypets – Spring”, “Pylypets – Summer”, “Pylypets – Autumn”.

Entrance to the waterfall is paid: for adults – 20 hryvnias, for children aged 7-16 years – 10 hryvnias, children under 7 years old – free.
The price of parking for cars is UAH 20, and for owners of minibuses – UAH 30. In addition, there are gazebos on the territory, the rental price of which is UAH 50 per hour. Those who want to have a picnic can buy firewood at the price of UAH 30-40 per bundle.

Vats, baths, saunas

Water bath procedures for tourists are a real pleasure after a day full of sports activities. Especially popular are Vats. In large containers, sea salt or decoctions of medicinal herbs are added to the water, which contributes to the normalization of heat exchange processes. In winter, it is important to strengthen immunity. And steam hardening in a bath or sauna is a sharp catalyst for metabolism, increasing general tone and strengthening blood circulation.

Hiking tours and hikes in the mountains

Hiking tourism is the most affordable type of active recreation in Transcarpathia. And although hiking tours in the mountains do not require significant expenses, you should still have minimal tourist equipment. But if you are a beginner, you should start with easy routes and simple, inexpensive things in your backpack. Remember that the most important thing is the hike, not the amount of hiking gear that is stored on the shelves. Good physical shape will never hurt you. And when going to the mountains, be sure to prepare your body for stress: go to the gym, go for regular runs, swim, or play football.

From special skills, you will first of all need the ability to use a map and compass, everything else will come with experience. The mountains do not forgive frivolity – you cannot exaggerate your own strength and underestimate the difficulties that may come your way.

The development of tourist infrastructure in Transcarpathia is at an initial stage and is proceeding slowly and spontaneously. There are still very few marked and equipped routes. But the untouched, pristine beauty of the mountains attracts true nature lovers to our region. Untrodden routes and hard-to-reach trails will give you the feeling of a real adventure.

The Ukrainian Carpathians are medium-altitude mountains. Most of the peaks are below 2,000 meters above sea level, and only 6 of them exceed this mark on the Black Mountain Range. Their height does not reach the conventional snow line and, accordingly, they do not have glaciers. Usually hiking in the Carpathians is carried out from the end of April to the middle of October. But you need to remember that in April-May there is still snow on the tops of the ridges, and in October – the frosts are already beginning.

Due to its good geographical location, it is convenient to go hiking from Pylypets to Borzhava valley and its peaks: Velikiy Verkh (1598 meters), Ghimba (1491 meters), Zeleny Gorbok (855 m), Solesche (1092 m) and the Smerek ridge (1421 m ). Most of the routes are marked, so it is difficult to get lost while observing all safety measures.

Excursions to interesting locations in Transcarpathia

The surroundings of the village of Pylypets, as well as the entire region of Mizhhirshchyna, are extremely rich in mineral waters of the carbon dioxide-chlorcalcium type: 53 explored springs. The most famous of them are Soymovske, Vuchkovske, Kolochavske, Verkhnobystrianske, Kelechynske. The water of the latter is used to treat radiation sickness.

Mizhhirshchyna is rich in berries and mushrooms: 120 tons of Carpathian porcini mushrooms and 40 tons of berries are harvested here every year. Mizhhirsky District is one of the most ecologically clean parts of Ukraine.

Connoisseurs of wild nature and wooden architecture will definitely like this region. Mountains and churches are the main tourist attractions of Mizhhirshchyna. In 34 out of 43 settlements there are wooden temples, both old and recently built. But the “young” churches are also of interest, since even in the 20th century churches were built here according to ancient traditions. There are also 27 wooden bell towers. There are more wooden temples here than in Rakhiv and Tyachiv districts combined. There are many ancient temples in the valley of the Rypynka River, from Podobovets to the Diet.

The village is rightfully considered a rare area of beauty, which Transcarpathia is so rich in. It is not surprising that you can find a huge number of attractions here.

These include:

  • Shypit waterfall;
  • Synevyr Pass;
  • Borzhava polonyna;
  • Museum of wooden churches;
  • mineral springs;
  • Lake Synevyr;
  • ancient wooden temples in the valley of the Repinka River, etc.
