Mountain Yavirnyk

Yavirnyk or Yavornyk is a peak in the Ukrainian Carpathians, in the Polonynskyi Beskydy massif. It is located within the Uzhhorod district of the Transcarpathian region, up to 10 kilometers east of the town of Velikiy Berezny.

The height is 1017 m. It has an elongated shape with a length of about 10 km. It is located on the border of the protection zone of the Uzhan National Nature Park. Despite the low height of the ridge, its top is overgrown with alpine grass, blueberry and raspberry bushes. The slopes of Mount Yavirnyk are mainly covered with beech and sycamore trees, to a small extent conifers also grow. On the north-eastern slopes of the mountain grow old beech forests with trees almost 50 meters tall.

Mount Yavornyk is known among hiking fans primarily due to the tourist shelter located here. It was recently restored after a fire in 2015 by the efforts of the “Carpathian Trails” tourist association, and its history dates back to 1936, when it was founded by the “Czechoslovak Tourists’ Club”.
