Huklyvyi

Five kilometres south-east of Volovets (Transcarpathia), the village of Huklyvyi is located on the slopes of the picturesque mountains. The village has a population of just over two thousand inhabitants. For skiing enthusiasts, there is a 950-metre-long track with a height difference of 180 metres not far from the village of Huklyvyi. And since 2002, in the second half of August, the village has hosted the Carpathian Open Paragliding Cup. The “winged” athletes fly over the Borzhava slopes for a week. The name of the village is most likely taken from the name of the Huklyvchyk stream that flows through the village.

A trip to the village of Huklyvyi

A relatively new wooden church stands at the entrance to the village, and a real masterpiece of folk architecture is hidden a little further, near the turn to Velykyi Verkh. This is the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit., built in the 18th century with elements of Baroque style.

Another historical monument of the village, a wooden Boyko hut from 1850, is now located in the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life.
