Legends of Lake Solone in Neresnytsia village
According to legend, the lake was formed in the 18th century on the site of a salt mine, over which a church once stood. During a storm, a small stream overflowed, flooding the mine, forming a lake, and the church, according to legend, sank to a considerable depth. If you listen carefully, you can hear the bell ringing from the depths of the lake. Perhaps underwater currents hit the bell, which creates the mystical sound.
According to another legend, it was formed after salt mining stopped in its place. One day, the mountain above the mine moved and destroyed a large part of the buildings. The church ended up at the bottom of a lake that was formed on the site of the mine. After this disaster, one of the church’s bells miraculously survived, as it was caught between trees and cracked. It was repaired and installed in the rebuilt church in the centre of the village of Neresnytsia.
The miners left Neresnytsia, and most of them went to work in the mines of neighbouring Solotvyno.
