Cyril and Methodius Women’s Monastery of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate is a monastery of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in the village of Drachyno near Svaliava of the Transcarpathian region.
The founder of the monastery is the deacon of the Svaliava district, the abbot of the Church of the Holy Nativity of the Virgin in Svalyava, archpriest Vasiliy Barna.
The idea of creating a women’s monastery came to Vasyl Barna in 1988, when he was transferred to the pastoral ministry in Svaliava.
In 1992, Barna went to the ruling bishop. He asked for the blessing of the bishop of Mukachevo and Uzhgorod, Eufimius Shutak, with a request for the opening of the monastery and the start of construction. The blessing was received.
In the fall of 1992, a place was consecrated for the foundation of a residential building, which later housed the first home church in honor of Cyril and Methodius.
The opening of the monastery took place on July 27, 1996. The first abbess is nun Nina (Mizun). She started work on October 18, 1996, previously she was a nun of the Holy Ascension Convent in the village of Chumalovo.
