History of the village of Gorinchovo
According to legend, robbers who escaped from the lordship once settled in the local thickets. Every year the tall thickets were burned, and the next spring they had to be burned again. Therefore, the village that arose in this place was called Gorinchovo (from the word to burn).
Nowadays, the village is famous for its storytellers, of whom there are several dozen. Folklorist Petro Lintur (1909-1969) was the most popular of tales from Gorinchovo. It was thanks to his titanic work that the collections of fairy tales were published:
- “Tales of one village”;
- “Verkhovyna Tales”;
- “Twelve brothers”;
- “Dido-Vsevido” and others.
When the ethnographers of the expedition of the Institute of Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR collected works of folk art in 1946, they brought more than three hundred fairy tales from Hornichevo alone.
The festival of storytellers “Living Storytelling Tradition” takes place every year in Horinchevo.
