Museum of lecra

The Museum of Lekvar with a tasting room is located in the village of Botar, Beregovo district. This is one of the little-known but very interesting locations Transcarpathia. The Lekvar museum was created on the initiative of Pavlo Tyzesh, the owner of the Tyzesh farm, which is well known in Ukraine as a producer of organic food under the Pan Eco brand. The opening of the unique museum took place on 17 April 2012 with the participation of high-ranking officials of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, Vynohradiv District State Administration, honoured guests from abroad and the large community of Botar village. The interior of the museum was designed by local sculptor Mykhailo Kolodka. The artist also created a monument to a mangalitsa pig to the left of the museum entrance, and a monument to a lekvar to the right of the same entrance. In particular, a thematic painting with Transcarpathian lekvar is of particular interest.

Interesting facts about the Jam Factory Museum

One room houses the museum’s exposition, which presents more than 20 types of Transcarpathian lekvar, six of which are on a tasting plate in the national mountain style. Over time, it is planned to increase the number of types of lekvar to two hundred. In addition to the traditional ones, there are all kinds of exotic lekvar – mango, melon, kiwi, orange and other fruits from more than 28 countries, which are striking in their diversity: from Hungary, which is close to us, to overseas Chile. A ceramic “jam” map of the world, made up of marks indicating where and what kind of jam is produced, informs the visitor.

In the second room, there is a tasting room where you can taste both the jam itself and smoked meat from the local breed of pigs – Mangalitsa and the authentic breed of cows – Hungarian Grey, organic juices and much more, as well as Hungarian cuisine.

The first lekvar tasting room is part of the “Sweet Transcarpathia” tourist route, created on the initiative of researchers from the Department of Tourism at Uzhhorod National University and with the assistance of several regional catering establishments. The route also includes visits to wine cellars, honey museum and gastronomic festivals.
