History of Novoselitsa

In written sources, the village of Novoselitsa was first mentioned according to some data in 1566, according to others – in 1696. In those distant times it was called Nova Kamianitsa. In 1752, the Greek-Catholic community built the brick Church of the Ascension in the village. Throughout history, the majority of local residents were Ukrainians from the Lemko ethnographic group. They were mostly engaged in cattle and sheep breeding and agriculture. During the times of Austria-Hungary, Novoselytsia was part of the Perechyn District of the Ung Committee. Over time, the village began to grow. Already in 1910, 534 residents lived here. Two World Wars had a negative impact on the demographic situation in the village, and in 1969, under Soviet rule, the population of the village was only 544 people. Nowadays, the population of the village has decreased to 492 people. Nowadays, Novoselitsa is developing as a ski resort and a center of green tourism.

Novoselitsa is located in the Uzhgorod (formerly Perechyn) district of the Transcarpathian region, 40 km from Uzhhorod near the border with Slovakia at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level. Thanks to the charming nature of the Carpathians Novoselytsia has great recreational potential.

Mineral springs of Novoselitsa

• Spring No. 2 is located on the western side of Novoselytsia. This water is carbonated, bicarbonate-chloride-sodium-calcium. Contains trace elements such as manganese and silicic acid. It is used to treat diseases of the digestive organs.

Both springs are hydrological landmarks of local importance. This status was granted to them back in 1984.
