The museum included departments of ethnography, nature, and social construction. In June 1946, the People’s Museum was reorganised into a historical and local history museum and moved to the Uzhgorod Fortress in March-April 1947. At that time, there were 10,000 exhibits. The Museum of Local Lore has the largest collection of Bronze Age and Celtic antiquities in our country. The numismatic collection is also of great value, with more than 12,000 ancient Roman, Austrian, Hungarian, Polish, Czech, Ukrainian and other banknotes. The collection of rare books is noteworthy, including the 1581 Ostroh Bible by Ivan Fedorov, the 1519 Ruska Bible by Francis Skoryna, and the 1401 Royal Gospel.
