Helper of Saint Nicholas is the first mini-sculpture of Uzhgorod. Its author is Mykhailo Kolodko. It is located on the railings on Teatralnaya Square (GPS: 48.622069, 22.298199). Almost immediately, residents of Uzhgorod began to affectionately call her Mykolaychyk.
This cute mini sculpture was installed on December 19, 2010. Her figure is made of bronze. The height of the miniature Mykolaychyk is only 16 centimeters, but he weighs as much as 12 kg. Almost immediately after its installation, the sculpture became the center of Saint Nicholas Day celebrations and charity auctions in the city.
Local residents believe that if you rub Mykolaychyk’s nose and make a wish, it will come true, of course, if you have behaved well at least during the last year.

In her book Uzhgorod – the World Capital of Mini-Sculptures, Nadiya Popadiuk tells a legend full of fairy tale atmosphere associated with this mini-sculpture. According to this legend, in December 2010, St Nicholas counted the number of letters sent from different cities and villages of Ukraine, and it turned out that he received the most wishes from children from Uzhgorod. And most importantly, all these children’s letters were different in content from the others. Uzhgorod children most often asked for health for their parents and happiness and love for their families, rather than material goods and gifts. This touched the kind heart of St Nicholas so much that he decided to open his official representative office in Uzhhorod and installed a mini-sculpture of his authorised assistant on the railing near the pedestrian bridge on Teatralna Square. Since then, anyone can rub the nose of Uzhgorod St Nicholas to heal from illness or to find their happiness.
