This mini-sculpture by Mikhail Kolodka was installed on September 2, 2018 near the entrance door. Uzhgorod children’s art school on the square Sandora Petefi. The initiator of the installation of this mini-masterpiece was the Consulate General Hungarians in Uzhgorod with the support of the Uzhgorod city Council.
Ferenc Erkel was an outstanding Hungarian composer, a pianist, conductor, and teacher. Together with By Franz LisztFerenc Erkel initiated in 1872 the construction of the new Opera house in Budapest, built in 1884, and became its conductor from the opening day. Erkel’s sons Gyula (1842-1909), Elek (1843-1893), Laszlo (1844-1896) and Sandor (1846-1900) also became musicians.
An interesting legend associated with this mini-sculpture tells in his book “Uzhgorod – the world capital of mini-sculptures” Nadezhda Popadyuk. According to legend, Uzhgorod children’s art school was established in 1954 with the assistance of Ferenc Erkel’s great-granddaughter Agnes. The girl considered it her life’s work, in memory of her glorious ancestor, to help create similar educational institutions throughout the country European, to develop young talent. Under the guidance of experienced teachers, over the years of existence of this school in Uzhgorod, thousands of students have received art education.
