The mini-sculpture “Hanukia” became the 27th in the city of Uzhgorod. This mini-masterpiece by Mykhailo Kolodka was opened on the occasion of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah on December 27, 2016, with celebrations in the presence of the Consul of Hungary in the city of Uzhgorod, László Vida, and the head of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration. Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of lights, a festival of candles that Jews all over the world light in honor of the miracle that happened at the consecration of the temple after the victory of the Maccabean army over the army of King Antiochus in 164 BC. e. According to legend, upon entering the destroyed, desecrated temple in Jerusalem, the Jews found a small jug of oil, which was enough to keep the fire burning for only one day.
However, in a strange way, the fire in the golden temple menorah burned for eight days. Just as much as was needed to prepare new, purified and consecrated oil. Since those times, the flickering light of candles, wonderful aromas, and belief in miracles bring a holiday to every Jewish home and remind of the courage and heroism of the ancestors of the Jewish people.
