Although Peter the Great had never been to Uzhgorod, he was very fond of Transcarpathian wines. His mini-sculpture installed on September 27, 2015 in Uzhgorod is a reflection of this love of the emperor. This bronze sculpture depicts Peter the Great sitting on horseback on a vat of wine with a bunch of grapes in his hand. It is located at the address Voloshina, 18, in the courtyard near the entrance to the Chardonnay tasting room (GPS: 48.623079, 22.299323).

Peter I – the first emperor of Russia, who turned the Muscovite state into the Russian Empire, restricting Cossack freedoms and the political autonomy of Slobid and Left Bank Ukraine in every possible way. After the death of the last hetman, Ivan Skoropadskyi, he forbade the Cossacks to elect a new one, removing the commanding hetman Pavel Polubotko.
He ruled Russia for 43 years. He was also called Peter the Great. This is not surprising, he was more than two meters tall. At the same time, his leg size was only 38, and he wore clothes of 48 size. His head was disproportionately small compared to the length of his body. He traveled a lot in Europe. From there he brought skates, the concepts of “left” and “right”, tulips and the most delicious Transcarpathian wine. He actually managed to “cut” a window to Europe”, everything he liked, he immediately implemented in his empire.
He was very cruel and had a dark sense of humor. So, for example, in 1714, in order to combat drunkenness, he ordered chronic alcoholics to be awarded medals for drunkenness, which weighed more than 7 kilograms. They were put on the “winner” of drinking while chained in the police station. He could not remove it himself. The poor drunk had to wear this award proudly for a week.
Throughout his reign, he fought with almost all the neighbors of the Russian Empire. He liked to deal with his enemies personally, torturing and executing them with his own hands.
And what is the formidable Russian emperor doing here in Uzhgorod?! He sits on a barrel and pours the Transcarpathian wine that he loved so much.
This is the career from emperor to butler.
