The Consul General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozsef Buhajla and the Director of the Ukrainian-Hungarian Educational and Research Institute Oleksandr Spenyk were invited to the opening ceremony.
According to Jozsef Buhajla, the mini-sculpture of Aran will become a real symbol for Hungarian philologists who are trained at Uzhgorod National University. The figure of Janos Aran was not chosen by chance, as Hungarians around the world celebrated the 200th anniversary of this famous poet the day before.
After the ceremony of unveiling the mini-sculpture of the Hungarian poet and writer, students recited excerpts from his poems and other works.
The famous Hungarian poet and writer János Arany took an active part in the tumultuous events of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-1849 and was the editor of the newspaper Friend of the People. His best work is the poem “Toldi”. In his works, he glorified the courage of patriots who did not bow down to foreign invaders, put forward the idea of national liberation of the people and opposed monarchical arbitrariness.
Immediately after the unveiling, it was believed that the statue of Janos Aran was a real good luck charm for philology students before exams.
